Reigning World No.1 Scottie Scheffler is on top of the world. His win at the WM Phoenix Open was enough to recapture his place at the summit of golf rankings. However, while his talents are spotless, the 26-year-old has made a startling revelation regarding the Champions Dinner.

Is Scottie Scheffler clueless about the prestigious Champions Dinner?

Ahead of the Genesis Open this weekend, where a certain Tiger Woods is set to make a comeback, Scheffler was unsure when asked about his plans for the Champions Dinner. “I don’t know exactly what you’re supposed to say that night. I haven’t really gotten too much info,” Scheffler admitted on Tuesday.

The Champions Dinner is one of golf’s noble traditions that has transcended generations. The defending champion of the previous Masters Tournament is expected to host a gala dinner for a guest list restricted to past winners.

But despite the limited time left before preparations get underway, Scheffler was unsettled on a number of things – most importantly, his dinner menu. “I don’t know exactly what I’m going to do, but it will be fun. It’s fun kind of planning it out. My wife, Meredith, she’s very creative,” Scheffler said. “She’s been helping me kind of think my way through it because I’m not really good at that, so she’s been helping me out.”

Tiger Woods has his say on Scheffler’s big night

Making his return to a PGA Tour event after an eternity, Woods was his usual self in the pre-match press conference. Before Scheffler’s admission, the Champions Dinner was already a boiling pot for debates after the tournament directors gave the green signal for LIV defectors to participate in the historical tournament.

What did Woods make of the issue? “The Champions Dinner is going to be obviously something that’s talked about,” Woods said, before requesting reporters to celebrate Scheffler’s achievement as defending champion.

“We as a whole need to honor Scottie, Scottie’s the winner, it’s his dinner. So making sure that Scottie gets honored correctly but also realizing the nature of what has transpired and the people that have left, just where our situations are either legally, emotionally, there’s a lot there,” he said.

With only a couple of months left before the top golfers tee up at the Augusta National, will Scheffler turn a corner and host an extravagant dinner for the distinguished set of guests? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.
