2019 Open Champion Shane Lowry has been named as the captain’s picks for the second time after competing as a rookie in the 2021 edition at Whistling Straits. It was a mixed season for Lowry. Although he missed the cut at The Open Championship at Royal Liverpool, he finished T16th at The Masters, T12th at the USPGA Championship, and T20th at the US Open.

Luke Donald felt confident enough about him after his previous Ryder Cup performance to add him to the squad. ”We saw his passion two years ago and we’re super excited to have him as a part of the team because he is great in a team as well,” said Donald.

Lowry is also excited to again show his talent in the Ryder Cup. He said he was very excited and grateful to be part of the Rome event. “I’m excited for a home Ryder Cup. I’m very grateful that Luke has given me the opportunity to go there and show what I can do again.” And to remind fans of his goofy side, Lowry went on to say, possibly in response to a question, ”Thanks mate, no I’m not in a pub I’m in a golf club.” His interview was posted on Sky Sports Golf’s official Twitter account.

But not everyone is happy with Donald’s pick. Keep on reading to know who has issues with Lowry’s selection.

LIV golfer Richard Bland is not happy that Donald picked Lowry. Lowry’s recent performance is the reason behind Bland’s opinion. Adrian Meronk, who finished in a tie for the thirteenth place at the Omega European Masters recently, should have been given a chance because he has been doing better than Lowry, according to Bland.

Bland wrote on his Instagram, “Hearing @adrian meronk not getting picked, Wins Italian Open at the Ryder Cup course. 3rd in DP World rankings! Deserves a pick over an out of form Lowry in my opinion!”
