John Daly is one of the most loved golfers across the world. He is known for his honest attitude and his colorful personality. Despite being admired widely, he has also often been in the headlines for the wrong reasons. His addiction to alcohol and gambling have always caused problems in his career as well as his personal life, although he did work hard and got out. But it was not always easy for the golf underdog.

The tour officials have disliked the Claret Jug winner many times because of his ‘I don’t care’ attitude. Once his behavior was captioned as unprofessional, disappointing his fans immensely. One tour official revealed an incident where his performance on the course was disrespectful to the game of golf. Let’s find out what it was.
John Daly and his shockingly unprofessional attitude
In 2011, John Daly shot many golf balls and landed them into a water hazard at the Australian Open. He even walked out of the course, which shocked everyone. This behavior dismayed the tour officials.

It was during the tournament when Daly was 4 over through 9 holes. He then had a two-shot penalty, which landed him 7 over at the 10th. But something unexpected happened at the 11th hole. It looked like he gave up, as he was not trying to hit the ball at all. He was just hitting the balls into a water hazard. Unsurprisingly, the PGA Tour winner was nowhere close to the clearing. As a result, he sent seven golf balls into the water, as if hitting them just for the sake of it.

Trevor Herden, the director of the Australian Open, said, “I’m extremely bitter and disappointed that he’s treated this championship this way.” He found his behavior unprofessional and unacceptable. Herden, who was also director of championships for Golf Australia, pointed out that his attitude had become a habit for him and this was causing issues for the tour.

PGA tour officials express dismay over Daly’s irresponsible behavior
The tour’s disappointment in Daly did not end there. The CEO of the PGA of Australasia, Brian Thorburn, revealed in a harsh comment that pro golfers never received appearance fees or any kind of money for playing at the Australian Open. After this behavior, they revoked the offer for Daly to play at the tournament in Coolum.
They referred Daly to the disciplinary committee in response to him breaching the rules and regulations of the PGA Tour Australia.
