The merger and the framework agreement have raised the blood pressure of the PGA Tour players lately. And the continued secrecy on the matter by the official authorities had the golfers lashing out at PGA Commissioner Jay Monahan in the last few weeks.

However, amid the backlash Monahan has received the verbal support of a PGA Tour pro who not only welcomed him back but also appreciated all his efforts toward the league. Let’s find out who the member is.

Billy Horschel, who is currently playing at the 3M Open in Minnesota, had given a long monologue of his personal beliefs in the current critical situation. After the first round on Thursday, Horschel openly expressed his full support for Monahan returning to the PGA and sang praises of him. “I’m very happy that Jay’s back. I think we all respect Jay & understand he’s done a tremendous job for the PGA Tour in his tenure as commissioner. I’m a massive fan of Jay.”  His statement was shared by NUCLR Golf on Twitter.

According to Horschel, Monahan is very considerate of the PGA Tour players and is only doing what is best for them at the end of the day. Monahan recently came back from a health-related break of a month or so.

Expressing his sentiments, he further called PGA Tour to be a member-input tour and hinted that it is not run by the players. “I don’t think it’s a member-run organization, I’ve said that many times. I think it’s a member-input tour, but we’re a part of the Tour and they want to make sure that our voices are heard as well.” Horschel is one of those players who has been vocal about the merger and the positive role that Monahan played in finalizing it.

Horschel praises Monahan for trying to be more transparent

In his long monologue, Horschel advocated for the fact that the players would like things to be more transparent but it is not always possible. He also acknowledged that his team members are hurt by the way things are rolling but he continued to insist on the fact that not everything can be communicated to them because sometimes deals aren’t done. He further appreciated Monahan’s recent attempts. “So, kudos to Jay and to the PGA Tour for taking a step forward and trying to be more transparent going forward.”

Last week after failing to make the cut at the Open Championship, Horchel is vying for the top prize at the 3M Open. He is tied for the ninth spot after the first round at the TPC Twin Cities.
