After the controversy surrounding the incidents at the practice range, the pair of golfers were asked to wait to make their starts at the Dubai Desert Classic. Rain played a part in delaying proceedings, which forced the two to move their schedule.

Earlier, McIlroy told reporters that he met Reed in the morning yesterday. The latter backed that up, revealing that it was the World No. 1 who brought him the update. “So, I get myself ready, and then a while later, I’m standing out in front of the hotel with my caddy and my coach, and we’re saying, ‘Where’s the car?'” he said.

“It’s now about 10 minutes late, and the next thing you know, Rory gets out of his courtesy car, as he’s also staying at the same hotel, and he says, ‘Hey, just to let you know, we’re not playing, as they’ve suspended the start of play,’” Reed further added.

Reed thanked McIlroy for the news but wasn’t sure whether he was referring to him, his caddie, or his coach. “So, I say, ‘OK, thanks for that,’ and head back to my room and go back to bed. I’m not sure if Rory was acknowledging me, my coach, my caddy or all three of us, but whatever, I’ll take it as a small victory,” he said.

What is the controversy surrounding Patrick Reed and McIlroy?

The incident took place at the practice ranges ahead of the start of the event. In a brief clip, Reed is shown shaking hands with McIlroy’s caddie before offering one for the golfer himself. However, the 4-time major championship winner gave him the cold shoulder, much to his surprise of Reed.

Evidently disgruntled, the LIV golfer turned back before tossing one of his golf tees in the direction of McIlroy. The incident irked several fans on the internet, but the golfers have played it down.
