Graeme McDowell praises Rory McIlroy’s game

The last year has seen a mix of intense emotions brewing in the world of golf amid the rivalry between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf. Even though both the big leagues are now coming to a highly anticipated merger, the time when they were pitted against one another has changed many equations in the world of golf.

However, McDowell’s relationship with McIlroy seems to be untouched by the back-and-forth hatred spread by both of these leagues in the past against each another. Leaving the past behind, McDowell recently complimented McIlroy’s futuristic style of playing golf. He talked about how the entire world of golf has been painted in McIlroy’s colors.

McDowell said, “I am a bit of a conservative player. But these kids don’t play chess… Shao (Minghao) was very aggressive. I used to play with Rory and he was ahead of his time in the way he took on courses. I used to scratch my head, but now everyone does it. I can’t change now, unfortunately!”

Even though McDowell was seen calling himself a conservative player who could not change his style anymore, he was quick to appreciate McIlroy’s style from day one. He also talked about how these talented players on the Asian Tour have a bright future, and offered them a chance to join the LIV Golf League in its next season.

Rory McIlroy’s hateful comments towards LIV Golf in the past

Rory McIlroy and LIV Golf have not had a pleasant past. Even after the Saudi Arabia-backed league made attempts to clear the air with the PGA Tour, McIlroy’s critique of the “exhibition” league was apparent. Earlier this year, when the news of the PGA Tour and LIV Golf’s merger broke out, Rory McIlroy was quick to openly express how he felt about the matter.
