Lexi Thompson made her seventh and final appearance at the Solheim Cup. Her team bagged a 3-point victory over the European team, bagging their revenge. Now, one would think that there is no better way to end the career. However, despite the win, it truly was not the way she would’ve wanted to end her career. While she received love and motivation, she was also being scrutinized.
Be it the Saturday foursomes played alongside Lauren Coughlin against Georgia Hall and Maja Stark, or her Fourballs where Europe won the round with a 2-1 score. Despite all of these attempts, it was the American Captain who made her final appearance all worth it.

The American team succeeded in taking revenge on the European team. As Stacy Lewis, the team captain, went ahead to lift the trophy, she turned back and handed over the Cup to Lexi Thompson. When asked why it was so important for the latter to win this year, Lewis replied, “Because she deserves that moment. I think she was kind of one of those first players to get that first tee going loud and going crazy, and I think the Solheim Cup is what it is because Lexi started that, and she started with that energy.”
She and Coughlin stomped Maja Stark and Georgia Hall in foursomes Saturday morning 4&3 for the day’s first point. Because of the delay for the spectators to reach the course, there was already a bit of a disappointment in the crowd. However, as Thompson arrived, the crowd went crazy for the first tee. Additionally, she also added that all the best memories that she has had with Lexi Thompson were at the Solheim Cup. She has an impressive record of 9-7-7 at the International Tournament.
Although she could not give her best, at least she was on the winning team, and there was no other way to have the last run. However, Lewis believes that Lexi Thompson can lead the team next year. As a result, she will have to come back one more time. “She’s been a leader of this team for a long time. On and off, she leads by the way she prepares and the way she goes about her business. Who knows, maybe she’ll make another one,” added the American team captain.
