Trump's Turnberry brag—Is he delusional or does he have a point about his golf legacy?

Trouble in Turnberry? Yes, for a couple of years now! So, everyone knows how R&A excluded the Turnberry Golf Course from the Open Championship Rota in 2021. Donald Trump’s golf resort in Scotland won’t be hosting the Open Championship as long as he owns it. R&A made it very clear. The people in charge of the tournament, the R&A, think that Trump’s connection to the resort could pose a serious security risk due to potential protests, according to the Bleacher Report.

This means that Turnberry, which has hosted the tournament four times before, will not see the thrill of the Open. Trump recently went on Bryson DeChambeau’s YouTube channel and was seen talking highly of the self-owned course. When DeChambeau asked the former U.S. Prime Minister’s favorite place to go, the answer was not something anyone would’ve expected.

“So, I love Scotland because it’s Turnberry. Turnberry got rated No. 1 in the world as you know which is hard when I own something”, said Trump, taking a jab at the R&A. Turnberry was rated the No. 1 golf course by Golf World magazine in 2020. DeChambeau also jumped in with words of appreciation for the golf course. “It’s very impressive,”  said the two-time major winner. DeChambeau is not the only golfer who has spoken highly of Turnberry.

A week before the 2024 Open Championship, Scottie Scheffler and Sam Burns were seen training at the Turnberry Golf Course. Not only that, but ‘The Great White Shark’ Greg Norman also shared an Instagram post appreciating the golf course that gifted him his first Open win: “Still love this place! A flood of great memories after 38 years @theopen @trumpturnberryscotland thanks @rickshielspga @gar.davidson Jed Moore”

Do you think Turnberry is the only golf club owned by Trump? Well, you’re wrong! Because he has a whole collection of prestigious golf clubs around the world.

Some of them are Trump National Golf Club, Bedminster; Trump National Golf Club, Charlotte; Colts Neck; and last but not least, Trump International Golf Club, West Palm Beach. Out of all the golf courses and resorts that Trump owns, he has a few favorites. Doonbeg Golf Course in Ireland is his second favorite place in the world, after Turnberry.

DeChambeau also added to the high talks about Doonbeg and said, “I’ve been there; I was there last year; yeah, I had a great time there; it was great’. LIV Golf and Donald Trump have been in association since the former’s inception. Do you think this association will only grow in future?
