The ongoing Players Championship has become the PGA Tour’s flagship event for various reasons. Apart from the strong field and high acclaim the tournament attracts, it is also considered to be a lucrative event. Among the many winners of the event, golf legend Tiger Woods has also been at the receiving end of the pay check. But if current standards are to go by, how much would he have earned from the Players itself?
Tiger Woods’ history on the Players Championship
The 15-time major championship winner announced himself on the world stage in 1991, but it took him six more years to make an appearance on the PGA Tour’s flagship event, the Players Championship. By 1999, the Woods had broken inside the top 10. A year later, he would suffer heartbreak as he narrowly missed winning the event, eventually finishing as a solo runner-up. It fueled the 47-year-old to claim his first-ever Players Championship next year, which allowed him to earn just over a million.
However, the victory would be followed by some drab displays in the event. Woods’ next top-10 finish arrived in 2009, before withdrawing from the tournament for both the 2010 and the 2011 seasons.

He made his return to TPC Sawgrass in 2012 and quickly announced his arrival by winning the tournament in the subsequence year. Woods’ last appearance came at the 2019 edition of the event, where he finished T30.
Woods’ luxury gains on present grounds
But what if the billionaire golfer was awarded the money promised to this year’s rank holders? Considering the 2023 Players Championship prize money breakdown, which has an eye-watering purse of $25 million, Woods would have earned a lot more.

Precisely, the amount would have equaled more than $16 million at $16,353,750. Woods finished inside the top 10 four times, including winning the tournament twice, in 2001 and 2013. Despite being awarded sufficiently for the victories, the champion golfer would have won $4.5 million if this year’s purse was used earlier in his career.
