The heat on the Spanish grounds has risen by a few degrees as the international event Solheim Cup teed off yesterday. Now, along with tension, there had been the slightest glimpse of rivalry as well. Surprisingly, among the players on the same team as well! Just days ago, we witnessed Nelly Korda and her best friend engaging in friendly roasting, and they targeted the 20-year-old Rose Zhang.

Now, following the first day where Team USA flaunted their intent to make a comeback this year with their dominating score over the reigning champions Europe, it seems like internally too, things have changed for the Americans. And leading that charge has been LPGA rookie Zhang, who’s now proved her worth to the friendly LPGA bullies, forcing them to eat their words!

The coveted Solheim Cup at Finca Cortesin was finished with its matchups just hours ago, and currently, Team USA is sitting atop the leaderboard with a dominating score of 5 after the completion of Friday’s foursomes and fourballs, while Europe sits at 3. This achievement, of course, would not have been possible without teamwork, especially that of Zhang and Megan Khang.

During the second sessions of the day, for the fourballs, Nelly Korda’s best buddy Khang was paired with the child prodigy. It seems like being on the same team as her facing off against their common enemy, and drawing the game has even made the LPGA star take back her friendly jabs at Zhang.

In an interview that followed the round, Khang couldn’t help but sing praises for the 20-year-old. “Rose is a very cool 20-year-old… You would think it was not her first Solheim,” she stated, proud of what they had accomplished together. We kind of just fed off each other, and I was telling her like, She is just so clutch… Every time I have hit not the greatest shot, Rose has stepped up to the plate and more. So, like, she’s going to stick it.”

The 25-year-old also mentioned an instance of Zhang’s “clutch” moments where she matched Gemma Dryburgh’s birdie putt to tie the lead and wrote, “Then Gemma hit an amazing chip. Right on top of it, Rose sank it, and I was like, ice in the veins. She’s clutch.”

Even though Khang was now celebrating with Zhang and singing her praises, it was a completely different scenario on Friday when the two went head-to-head for a practice match!

Amid all sorts of match-related anxieties in Andalucia, the golfers often tend to engage in friendly contests. And Megan and Rose were no exception to that. The two faced off in a short contest, where the former had a lead. Following that, Khang was questioned in a press conference whether anything crazy went down during that practice game, like wagers or anything of that sort.

Although the one-time LPGA winner didn’t shed light on whether the Americans were engaged in any friendly betting, she sure had words about going head-to-head with Zhang. “Put that rookie in her place,” she stated hilariously about beating the youngster, thus becoming Zhang’s friendly bully.
