Paulina Gretzky is surrounded by popular men; she is the daughter of hockey legend Wayne Gretzky as well as the spouse of legendary golfer Dustin Johnson. She seems to have it all from a successful partner to a famous family. Yet beneath the surface, she was wrestling with an identity crisis that took her on a transformative journey.

She recently reflected on her own growth and journey of self-discovery. She was interviewed in KIND Magazine Health & Wellness. In the interview, she emphasized the importance of mental and emotional well-being, acknowledging that it’s okay not to have all the answers and that self-acceptance is important. She also spoke about her identity crisis journey.

Paulina Gretzky goes on a full disclosure mode

Paulina’s struggle to define herself was based on the high expectations that accompanied her last name. As the daughter of “The Great One” Wayne Gretzky and wife of one of the world’s greatest golfers, she was constantly in the public eye with spotlight on her each and every move.

It was a life that seemed glamorous on the outside but as we go deeper it was more and more overwhelming. In her own words, she felt “stuck.” The pressure to conform to the image of the perfect wife and daughter was suffocating. She said: “I was stuck in this, ‘What is Paulina Gretzky going to do?’ But like, I don’t always know and it’s OK to not know” 

She began her journey of self-discovery during COVID-19 when she battled post-partum depression. Eventually, she realized that it was far better not to have all the answers and that it was normal to feel uncertain.

She has put her own happiness and well-being first, not only for the sake of her children and her relationship with Dustin but for her own well-being which in turn is connected to the well-being of all of them as a family unit.
