Before the $3 billion merger, for a whole year, the golf world was divided into two groups: those who sided with the PGA Tour and those who supported LIV Golf . This sparked numerous rivalries among golfers, such as Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods. Additionally, neither league held back in expressing their displeasure with the other, particularly the PGA Tour.
However, after the merger, many assumed this would bring peace to the golf world for now. Also, as a part of the preliminary negotiations for the merger between the PGA Tour, the DP World Tour and the Saudi sovereign wealth fund, plans to give Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods their own LIV Golf franchises have been made public. But McIlroy’s feelings about LIV Golf haven’t changed. For someone who has criticized the breakaway league since its creation, a change of heart after the merger announcement seems unlikely. This time also, he made a bold statement about LIV Golf. Let’s find out!

Rory McIlroy tops the chart as the biggest critic of LIV Golf. His dislike for the Saudi backed league is not news to everyone. However, he made a promise regarding LIV Golf, which he couldn’t keep.
McIlroy stated that he would not discuss LIV Golf during the PGA Championship and would instead concentrate more on his performance. It appears that his distaste for the Saudi-sponsored circuit outweighs his promise. Tour Pro shared the Irishman’s statement regarding LIV Golf on its Twitter account. The post was captioned: “Rory McIlory said just a little over a month ago at the PGA Championship that he was going to steer clear of any talks about LIV and focus on his game. Here we are today, just 6 weeks later. The kid just can’t help himself.”

In it, McIlroy said, “If LIV Golf was the last place on Earth to play golf, I would retire.” Well, this is not the first time McIlroy has said his true feelings about LIV Golf; he said he truly hates LIV and hopes it gets away. But supporting the PGA Tour sometimes made him the subject of sly jabs.
Phil Mickelson once took a dig at McIlroy
We all know that Phil Mickelson is one of the biggest supporters of LIV Golf. Whenever he gets a chance, he absolutely backs his league. One time, McIlroy’s statement regarding the PGA Tour gave Mickelson an opportunity to highlight the benefits of LIV Golf.

According to McIlroy, PGA Tour athletes needed some downtime so they could use it to work on their skills. Numerous supporters voiced their thoughts on it, and some even proposed that McIlroy sign with LIV Golf for a more relaxed schedule.
Right away, Lefty seized the chance to tell the crowd that LIV Golf would be the ideal place for McIlroy to play because he was exhausted and in need of some rest. The primary difficulty, though, would be that no team would want the Irishman since they didn’t want to deal with him. ”Problem is I don’t think there’s a team that wants him on it because they’d have to deal with all his bs,” tweeted Mickelson.
