The tumultuous $3 Billion agreement among the three major circuits for Men’s golf has been the talk of the town for a month and a half. Now, when the Open Championship is on the horizon and LIV Golfers are just as excited about partaking in the esteemed event, PGA tour loyalists, both players, and fans have their unique perspectives.

Among all is unicorn Jon Rahm. The Spanish golfer has been with the PGA Tour long enough to understand their decision and he also has some insight into playing alongside pro golfers from the Saudi-PIF’s circuit. He shared his own experience and thought process for his decisions during the presser for the Open Championship.

The PGA Tour has been known for not only its spectacular reputation but also for compensating its golfers substantially. Amid the debate stemming from the LIV Golf merger, the policy board is in talks of compensating the players who remained loyal to the American circuit despite being offered huge sign-up bonuses from the Saudi-backed circuit.

Jon Rahm was one of those players who received a substantial offer but turned it down to stick with the PGA Tour. During the 2023 Open Championship presser, he said, “Do I think there should be, and absolutely must be a compensation? No.” His thinking is pretty straightforward, that he was the one who decided to reject LIV Golf’s offer. “I wasn’t forced into anything,” he referred to his decision to stay with the PGA Tour.

The two-time Major champion also explained, “I chose to stay because I think it’s the best choice for myself and for the golf I want to play.” He made a funny remark stating that he is not going to refuse compensation if it is headed his way because they all had the opportunity to “take the money,” and defect to LIV Golf but they had their reasons for staying. Sky Sports Golf shared his delightful thoughts on Twitter.

The pro golfer admitted that he makes a healthy living on the PGA Tour and has no complaints. He likes the events and what he is able to accomplish so he wasn’t persuaded in any other direction. He is grateful to the American circuit for allowing him a worldwide platform to showcase his skills on the links.

Rahm also understands his fellow golfers

The Spanish golfer agrees that the PGA Tour has done a lot for him and many individual golfers. He also attempts to understand others’ opinions; for those who defected to LIV Golf and want to return as well as the loyalists who don’t want golfers back on the American circuit.

However, Jon Rahm himself doesn’t seem to lean either way. He appreciates what the PGA Tour is trying to do and believes it is in the best interest of the players and stakeholders. He did, however, state in all fairness for those who want to return that, “Some punishment should be in order.” He has no suggestions for the same because he believes it will be up to the disciplinary board to decide. Rahm just wants to play his game and not worry about the politics of Pro Golf.
