While everyone has their own way of growing their status, some go about their business in an amusing way. English golfer, Eddie Pepperell, is one such character, who has made his name thanks to his exploits on Twitter. But did you know he once deleted his popular account on the back of improving his relationship with his then-girlfriend? Pepperell even detailed his reasons later, which were a brutally honest take that applied to a majority of Twitter users.
Eddie Pepperell reveals he used Twitter “narcissistically”
Back in 2015, Pepperell had already created an adoring fanbase, thanks to his humor on Twitter. But he deleted his account (@EddiePepGolf) at the end of the year, citing various reasons.

“I just didn’t feel like I needed it in my life,” Pepperell said. “I was using Twitter kind of narcissistically in a sense – and I was just going on to check to see if anyone had written or replied to me.”
Additionally, the 31-year-old was aware of the downsides of having a popular social media account. With a growing fanbase, he was forced to steer clear of controversial jokes.
“Yeah, I had (built myself a bit of a fanbase),” Pepperell mentioned. “But as time goes on that would only get more problematic and I’d end up saying some things that would end up getting me in trouble.”
Pepperell admits to romance factor in deleting Twitter
The Oxford-born golfer had one more reason for deleting Twitter, presumably saving the most important factor for the end. “I found that in the relationship with my girlfriend–well, I was on my phone a lot–and although some people will disagree with me, I just don’t think you need social media in your life,” Pepperell revealed.
