Daly is no stranger to winning The Open Championship at St. Andrews. The 56-year-old claimed his second and last Major win at the 1995 British Open. However, following that win, it has been a deadlock when it comes to a Major win for Daly.

After his low-scoring round, John Daly revealed he was on the verge of retiring
In the opening round at The Open in 2010, Daly had a six-under-par 66. The low-scoring round was more than enough to create a buzz around St. Andrews. It eventually became his best score recorded at the British Open. Following his impressive round at the home of Golf, Daly then gave an emotional speech, spilling beans on his hard work off the cameras.
“I worked so hard on my game in the off-season and, in the past, when I’ve worked hard on my golf game, I’ve gotten results,” said John Daly. He then mentioned about lack of patience he had when it came to winning, and also talked about the influence of fellow PGA Tour star Tim Herron.

Daly said, “This time, I think I just wanted the results quicker … I talked to Tim Herron and he said, ‘I wanted to quit a million times.’” The 56-year-old further talks about how many golfers must have wished to say it out loud, by didn’t have the guts to say it.

He added, “There are a lot of guys that say it. But I just love the game too much, and I think there are not too many players who have said it. But I was just the idiot to say it on TV.”
After an exciting opening round, John Daly eventually fell down in further rounds. He ended up tied to the 48th position at the 2010 British Open. Moreover, he has only made the cut twice at any Major ever since. Nonetheless, Daly had something to cherish years later, as he claimed a win at the Senior Tour, PGA Tour Champions, where he joined in 2016 after turning 5o years old.
