“I really have had a complicated relationship with golf,” Spiranac said. “And more importantly, competing.” She revealed why she couldn’t shine as a professional golfer even though she has all the skills to be one in the latest episode of her podcast, ‘Playing a Round With Paige Renee.’
The now 29-year-old wanted to be a gymnast when she was young until an injury led her to change her sport. And according to her, she struggled as a gymnast too because of the competitive aspect of it. “I just can never allow myself to compete,” she added. “And let go of the stress and pressure that comes with competition.”
The stress of competing led her to have a troubled relationship with golf!
“I was a f**king mental case,” Spiranac revealed through her podcast. The 29-year-old explained that she had done everything in her power, from consulting different psychologists to reading many books, to get herself out of the stress of competition. “And nothing ever worked,” she admitted sadly.

Notably, Paige Renee Spiranac quit being a professional golfer in 2016 after she attended a Ladies European Tour event in Dubai. And she had once revealed through one of her YouTube Q&A videos that she retired because of her mental issues.
However, it was the first time she disclosed how the competitive aspect of the sport gave her stress. She explained it after attending a golf competition, the American Century Championship.
