We will see Tiger Woods competing at next week’s historic 150th Open Championship on the Old Course at St. Andrews. However, he recently admitted that his chances of competing at St. Andrews were in jeopardy because of the 2022 PGA Championship. Tiger said this was the reason he withdrew from the U.S. Open.

At the 2022 PGA Championship, Woods was toiling a lot with his leg. Hence, he had to withdraw from the event after three rounds and announced that he wouldn’t be competing in the U.S. Open. Woods has an immense desire to play in the Open Championship this year, so he took some rest to regain strength for the final major championship of 2022.

Tiger Woods reveals why he desires to compete in the Open Championship this year

Woods is a three-time Open Championship winner, including two victories on the Old Course. Moreover, the Old Course will be the host of the 2022 Open Championship. Hence, Tiger wants to give his best.

“I’m lucky enough to be part of the past champions that have won there and want to play there again,” said Woods. “I don’t know when they are ever going to go back while I’m still able to play at a high level, and I want to be able to give it at least one more run at a high level,” revealed the 15-time major championship winner.

Moreover, this year’s Open Championship is a historic event as it is the 150th edition of this tournament. Hence, the atmosphere around St. Andrews will be electrifying, making the event even more special and iconic for the golfers and fans.

Therefore, the 82-time PGA Tour winner did not want to take any risks. He took a rest as his condition after the 2022 PGA Championship was terrible. However, Woods now looks much better and has regained some strength, which will assist him in sustaining 72 holes.

He recently competed in the JP McManus Pro-Am, a 36-hole tournament in Ireland. But he was using a golf cart for this 36-hole event. So, it was not clear whether he could walk with ease. However, Tiger is grateful to be here playing golf again.

“If you asked me last year whether I would play golf again, all of my surgeons would have said no. But here I am playing two major championships this year,” concluded Woods.
