Earl Woods was a great father, and he mentored his son Eldrick, who became the famous golfer, Tiger Woods. He became one of the most loved celebrities, and his father played an important role in it. But on May 3, 2006, he bid his last goodbye at his home in Cypress, California, at 74.

During his fifth Green Jacket win in 2005, his father could not attend owing to his illness. Woods had tears in his eyes while he said that he owed the victory to his father, Earl Woods, and he could not wait to hug him.

Earl Woods spent his life making Tiger Woods the man he is today. He left him free, but he guided him in the right direction. In 2001, during an interview with Golf Digest, Earl Woods said, “I never treated Tiger like a kid. I treated Tiger as an equal. We transcended the parent-child relationship and became best friends a long time ago.”

When Woods was six, he used to sit in the garage and watch his father hit golf balls into the net. But by the time Woods learned to walk, he could make a golf swing.

But Earl Woods said that he never pushed his son to pursue golf as a career. It was his choice, and he never took control of his life. And that freedom helped Tiger blossom into the legend he is today. Tiger’s excellent guidance and support from his father led him on to a path of great success.
