The two former NCAA players have more to share than back-to-back wins and their devotion to golf. The former college golfers of Stanford also happen to be extremely competitive and share a passion for winning. First place is the only place they want to be in, second place ain’t good enough.

In a recent video podcast with GolfMostly, Rose Zhang shared something about her early years that bears an uncanny resemblance to the Golf GOAT Tiger Woods. When asked about her childhood, Zhang laughed a lot while she shared her penchant for winning.

She started her story with, “I was 11 at the time…”  and went on to explain how she was playing really well so she got to explore more opportunities than most 11-year-olds do. Her ambitious tale is quite similar to when Woods claimed at the tender age of 13 that he would be the Michael Jordan of Golf. In other words, in their pre and early teens, both Zhang and Woods shared a vision for their future, and it included achieving the first place.

In the video posted by GolfMostly on their Instagram, Zhang goes on to talk about her accomplishments. “I had over 20 to 25 Gold medals,” she says. “And I also had second-place medals,” she chuckles to undercut any vanity in her following remark. “I’ve got like 15 to 20 of them but I threw away all my silver medals.”

Rose goes on to share that she loves to win and second place just doesn’t cut it for her. In fact, in her own words, she was an “interesting, fiery little competitor.” That statement sparked a lot of laughs but it also prompted the official account of MizuhoLPGA to share their comment with love, Well she certainly didn’t settle for second at @libertynationalgc!”

The parallels between Tiger Woods and Rose Zhang are illuminated every time we learn something new about the newly-turned-pro. Her competitive nature developed 9 years before she decided to challenge accomplished female golfers in the LPGA Tour, and give them a run for their money.

Zhang and Woods like to be on top of their game

After the untimely accident that left Woods injured and struggling to fully recover, he has had some difficulty with movement. Any athlete in his place would probably want to hang up the gear, especially when they have amassed a fortune of 1.1 Billion, but not Woods. He would rather remain sharp with his club and keep learning new tricks.

We recently even saw Woods practicing his rounds with Scottie Scheffler where he imparts his genius to help his fellow pro golfer. He explained how he modifies his hits and cuts to better balance his stance with his implants in the leg that prevent fluidity. It is clear that he refuses to give up.
