The ongoing battle between PGA Tour and LIV Golf seems to have no end, as players and personnel from both Tours have been constantly dissing each other. In the latest development, the PGA Tour commissioner, Jay Monahan has his say on whether they would link with the Saudi-backed Tour soon. But does the Commissioner want to work with LIV Golf?

The Breakaway Tour has managed to sign some of the best PGA Tour talents in a few months, thanks to its Saudi funding. The American Tour in response has decided to increase the prize money from next year to retain their best talents. Moreover, a new golf league named TGL will commence from the 2024 season onwards.

Despite all the new initiations, many believe the lucrative series holds an upper hand in the battle of Tours. Some even believe that the PGA Tour must link up with the LIV Golf to avoid further disruption in the sport. Jay Monahan, who was appointed as the Commissioner of the American Tour back in 2017, finally shared his thoughts on this idea.

PGA Tour Commissioner speaks on the idea of collaboration with LIV Golf

Ahead of the 2022 Presidents Cup, Monahan interviewed with Golf Monthly. Since the event has no LIV Golf player involved, the commissioner must have expected the tournament to go on without any nuisance regarding the lucrative series. However, in the interview, Jay Monahan was asked about the rumors of a link between the rival Tour in the future.

I think I’ve been pretty clear on this, I don’t see it happening,” said Monahan. “When you look at where we are and you think about words and actions, we are currently in a lawsuit, so coming together and having conversations, to me that card is off the table and has been for a long period of time.”

The Commissioner further talked about how the PGA Tour has the best golf talent in the world and the competition in the Tour is supreme. He also shared how the 92-year-old Tour will improve further to excite the golf fans. Notably enough, Jay Monohan also emphasized the Tour’s rich legacy and traditions.

Monahan said, “When you look at the PGA Tour and you look at where we are today and you look at what it is that we try and accomplish every single day, what’s our focus – to put the best competitive platform forward for the best players in the world to achieve at the highest level, to win the championships that have history, that have tradition, that create legacy”.

Though the Tour has taken all the measures to compete with its nemesis, what about the future?
