Jon Rahm’s rampant decision to move to LIV Golf continues to haunt the PGA Tour. As time passes, the Spaniard has left no stone unturned in justifying the crux of his decision. So much so that he has recently claimed that his move to LIV Golf acted as a push to fasten the process of the impending PGA Tour-PIF $3 billion merger.
Despite his move, the F-1 model World Tour proponent confessed that he “still loves the PGA Tour,” and that he hopes to compete there again one day, highlighting his stance for unification. But this does not mean he is unhappy with his $500 million decision to choose LIV Golf, especially because he admires the “fun” team golf format that the Saudi Backed League follows.
In his dire attempts to justify his behind-the-scenes motivation to make the move, he talked about the jealousy he felt while witnessing other team sports during his time on the PGA Tour’s side of the spectrum. He said, “I was jealous of many other sports, right? When you win as an individual, for example, last year, you did all your commitments, you wake up the next day, and that’s it. It’s not like there’s a shared emotion after that like you see when a team maybe wins a Super Bowl or the NBA Finals, or the World Series.”

Jon Rahm is currently in charge of the “power, the pride, and the passion” of LIV Golf’s 13th team, the Legion XIII, which consists of talented stars like Tyrrell Hatton, Caleb Surratt, and Kieran Vincent who believe in one goal, “Together we play. Together we conquer.” This team of avid golfers is “fearless in the face of competition.”
But what is this team sport lover’s take on a unified front for the game of golf?

In Rahm’s opinion, the two giants on different ends of the golf world might “be closer than ever” to arrive at a positive decision. He emphasized the favorable results of the mysterious Bahamas “meet and greet and learn session” hosted by Player Director Tiger Woods between the PIF poster face Yasir Al-Rumayyan, Jay Monahan, and the other 5 Player Directors. He revealed that they had “some discussions that haven’t been there in the past.”
He further emphasized on the fact that his unexpected defection added to the ongoing air of unification. However, he also clarified that he made the decision primarily for himself. He added, “I think I could be the start of a tipping point, yeah. I understood the weight that that decision could have and the impact it could have. That’s why it wasn’t such an easy decision.”
