Korda’s third round at the Tokyo Olympics

At one of the most important international events in any sport, the Olympics, tension is always at its peak. Korda, who got through the first two rounds with 15 birdies and one eagle, suffered a major blow on the third day. She started well, making a birdie on the second hole and again on the fifth and sixth holes. But the 8th hole is where things heated up for the LPGA star.

Even though the hole was a par-5, Korda made a bogey. Before that, she had birdied every single par-5 in all the previous rounds. That bogey somehow got to Korda, and her poised game slipped out of her hands. She went on to fight hard for every single hole after, not making a single birdie. But Korda had managed to not fall the other way either and make 10 straight pars in a row. She ended the round with a three-stroke lead.

Nelly Korda opens up about her frustration

After the terrible third day, Korda went through, she revealed in an interview where her frustration stemmed from. She said, “There’s something inside of me when I bogey a par 5 that I just get so frustrated about because I shouldn’t be doing that.”

That single bogey at the 8th hole could have cost Korda the golf medal had she not managed to keep her head in it and par the rest of the rounds. The champion knew she had to give it her all and said, “I fought really hard to stay in it really, or ahead of it.”

Her resolve had gotten her through that tough moment, and Korda was proud that she had battled against the frustration. She even stated that, despite the intense day that she’d had, her “fight” had made her happy.
