The 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson event ended on Sunday with Jason Day taking home the title and a whopping $1,710,000 of the total $9.5 million purse. The win certainly meant a lot to the former World No. 1. Especially since his path to finding victory once more hadn’t been easy.

In the press conference after the final round, Day revealed that there was a phase in his life when he was very close to quitting the game. He claimed that he had never shared these thoughts with anyone, not even his wife: “I never told my wife that, but I was okay with it, just because it was a very stressful part of my life.”

“It feels strange to be sitting here. I don’t know how else to explain it. To go through what I went through and then to be able to be a winner again and be in the winner’s circle is very pleasing.”

The golfer revealed that he a lot of hard work had gone into trying to be better on the course. Overall, he was overjoyed to see the result of his hard work finally pay off. “It’s nice to be able to get my 13th win,” he stated, blissfully.

Jason Day pays tribute to his mother moments after his win

Having clinched victory on Mother’s Day, it was only logical that the pro remembered his late mother along with thanking the mother of his children, his wife, Ellie Day, for her support!

The golfer’s mother passed away last year after a long fight with lung cancer. And the Australian golfer revealed that she was on his mind the moment he grabbed the win.
