Since making her professional debut in 2013, Jin-Young Ko has accumulated a series of victories on the LPGA of Korea Tour. Contrary to expectations, her winning streak did not cease when she transitioned to the LPGA Tour. Ko has consistently demonstrated her prowess by securing victories on the tour, with her most recent triumph being at the Cognizant Founders Cup. After she won, she also retook her spot as the world’s number-one female golfer, overthrowing Nelly Korda.

In her pre-tournament press conference at the Mizuho Americas Open this week, the Korean golfer was asked about world rankings. To which she laughingly replied, I don’t care.” She added that, unlike many, she was not focused on world rankings and claimed that what mattered to her was what she did on the course. “So I just want to play really good on the course and in the tournament. I want to win. I like to compete with those amazing girls. And I want to win,” she stated.

Ko added that, above all, she was focused on the win and that world rankings were never something she thought of while playing. She added that she was content with just playing her best during the four rounds of an event and coming out on top. Her success lay on the course itself, in hitting well and playing well. The rest of it was just a byproduct of her incredible skill!
