Since joining the LIV Golf Series, numerous top international stars have been a poor reflection of themselves on the course. However, that list doesn’t include Talor Gooch, who has been in scintillating form of late. The 31-year-old triumphed at Singapore to make it back-to-back wins on the LIV Golf Series, which effectively turned the tables on his banter with last year’s individual award winner, Dustin Johnson.

Talor Gooch has the last laugh against Dustin Johnson

The 31-year-old golfer was a part of Johnson’s troupe that conquered the inaugural season of the LIV Golf Series. While he never claimed an individual victory in LIV events last year, Gooch has been in splendid form this season.

His victory at Singapore marks his second win in a row, merely a week after triumphing at Adelaide. But back in pre-season, Gooch faced a tough decision to leave a championship-winning squad to team up with his good friend, Harold Varner III, at the RangeGoats GC.

“DJ has talked a little smack to me over the last few months, and he more or less said, after Miami, y’know, ‘Enjoy Miami because you’re never going to see this again,’” he said in The 73rd Hole podcast after his Adelaide win.

“It’s been a motivating factor, a driving factor [for me] and the team to go and get on the podium and get a win as a team. So I kind of proved DJ wrong,” Gooch proudly said.

Talor Gooch and RangeGoats finally claim victory at LIV Golf

While Gooch held the lead ahead of Sunday’s final round in Australia, he succumbed under pressure to nearly give away victory. While the Oklahoma-born eventually made it over the line, his below-par performance cost his team, the RangeGoats GC, their debut victory.

After the event, Gooch was left with the desire to win trophies for the team. “Going into that final round I was locked in and ready to go and have a really good round and help propel us to win a win,” he had said. “So, honestly, it was a little bit bittersweet because we had a lead going into the final round and I didn’t help our team win so that was frustrating.”

The zeal for victory eventually bore fruit, with Gooch’s Singapore triumph all but confirming RangeGoats’ first-ever LIV Golf team event win. Can the golfer accomplish the impossible by making it a hat trick of wins at the next LIV event? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
