Bryson DeChambeau took hold of the ever-challenging Pinehurst No. 2 despite it becoming a nightmare for other pros. After the conclusion of the third round, the scientist became the only player to shoot three rounds of 60s in a major championship. And for the first time in his life, DeChambeau took the 54-hole lead in a major.

The LIV pro shot six birdies, with two mishaps following him at the elevated and slippery greens of the 4th and 17th holes. With a 7 under 208 score, the 30-year-old is three strokes ahead and what makes his round more incredible is the fact that DeChambeau was struggling with a hip injury. After an exemplary performance, he confessed what actually caused the issue, which could have led to his withdrawal from the tournament.

At the post-round press conference, the 54-hole leader was asked how his hip got injured and if it impacted his performance during the third round. Despite having shown great performance, Bryson DeChambeau honestly replied, “Yeah, it was tougher to get through on a couple shots.”However, the one-time major winner reassured everyone that it was fine and that he had always had it, and it just happened to pop up at Pinehurst.

Apart from putting in hours of practice on the golf course, DeChambeau had taken up additional labor, which led to the popping of his hips. The 30-year-old explained, “I’ve been playing a lot of good golf lately, and working on my house, trying to get my house finished, so I haven’t really had time to rest like I want to.” DeChambeau further added that after finishing runner-up at Valhalla, he went back and started ” grinding and focusing” more, leaving him no time to rest.

As he has been trying to push his limits, DeChambeau looked at the injured hip as a consequence of all the stress. Nonetheless, the 2020 U.S. Open winner was better and appreciated his team for it. DeChambeau reassuringly said, “I’ve got a great team around me to help fix some stuff up.” DeChambeau was allowed to take 5-minute breaks twice in between the third round for some physio treatment.

Addressing his trainer and physio, who has been working since SMU days, DeChambeau said, “Ryan Overturf is here. Does a bunch of MAT on me, and he’s going to fix me right up.” With the help of Overturf, the LIV Golf Pro was able to overcome the difficulties, but there was one more thing that was distracting him for the better.
