The golf world is very excited to find out who will win the Open Championship at Royal Liverpool on Sunday. One strong candidate in the standings is the PGA Tour rookie, Cameron Young. The 26-year-old is seeking out his first major win, something he has been looking forward to since last year’s Open Championship, which ended with him so close to the top and just a stroke away from victory!
In a recent flash interview, Young opened up about the competitors in the game this year, Saturday’s scores, and Sunday’s potential. Let’s see what the young pro golfer has to say about his shot at the title and perhaps clinching victory over Brian Harman, who currently holds the lead!

In conversation with TenGolf, Cameron Young sheds light on his gameplay for the British Open after round 3 on Saturday, finishing 7-under. At the moment, Brian Harman is the most crucial competitor in front of Young and sits a whopping 5 strokes ahead. To beat him, Young will need to shoot 65 or more and hope that Harman ends at an even par.
Interestingly, if he does, it would not be the first time he will have pulled that off. The pro golfer scored a similar feat in last year’s British Open and was held up in a similar scenario with Cameron Smith. While he shot 65 during the final round, Smith scored 64 and headed home with the Claret Jug. However, the youngster’s strategy for the final round is more focused on his mind than on the scores.
When asked about that strategy on Saturday, Young stated that he worked well even when under pressure, and hence he knew that on Sunday too he had what it took to try and compete for the title. “If you go back and look, I’ve made one or two birdies in the last two or three holes, or at the U.S. Open, like three great pars in a row to make the cut on the number.”
He shed light on the development of his gameplay and acknowledged that he has “started to play some better golf” and that his game has come a long way. “I feel more in control of my game and equally as in control of my mind,” he stated.

Very few players give themselves credit for the improvements they make in their game. And Young stands to be one of them. His approach to the final lap is to focus on himself and trust wherever that will take him. However, will that be able to let him grab his first major win, especially with the tough competition he currently faces?
Who will have the last laugh at the British Open?
Young will start Sunday in second place at 7-under and five shots behind the leader, Brian Harman, who stands at 12-under. Last year, the American star was a runner-up at the Open Championship, and just a few months ago, he tied for seventh at the Masters earlier in April.

Regardless of the result on Sunday, Young stated in the interview that he is happy with his performance this week. The youngster also praised Herman for his impressive putting skills and strong, never-back-down mentality. However, the current leader is not the only one who stands in the 2022 Open Championship runner-up’s way for the title this year.
Another player in the running is John Rahm, who is third on the leaderboard, just a stroke behind Young. After experiencing two consecutive frustrating days during the first two rounds, Rahm turned his game around on Saturday. With eight birdies and ten pars, scoring a whopping 8-under par 63 at Royal Liverpool. It will be his second major championship title this year if Rahm wins.
