The golf community is still reeling under the announcement of the multi-billion dollar merger between the PGA Tour, LIV Golf, and the DP World Tour. Fans have been vocal about their disappointment with the deal, but more so have been the players themselves, many who were left in the dark about the pact. One of the PGA Tour’s most vociferous loyalists, the efforts of Rory McIlroy, have presumably gone to waste.

But despite the coming together of a new era of golf, it looks like the former World No. 1 can’t get over his hate for LIV Golf.

“I think that’s the thing. I still hate LIV. Like, I hate LIV. Like, I hope it goes away. McIlroy’s words were an extension of his apologetic feeling towards the RBC Canadian Open and its primary sponsor, who has been hogged off the limelight for the second season running. “I mean, I feel bad for RBC and the Canadian Open. To think about what went on this time last year and then the bombshell that was dropped,” he said.

“So I really, I feel bad because being such a great partner and having this stuff sort of dropped on you two years in a row is very unfair,” McIlroy further claimed.

For the unversed, during the same time last year, news of the LIV Golf Series, then temporarily named the Saudi Golf League, came into existence. One of the biggest breakaways from mainstream tours, the news flashed through headlines, which left the Canadian Open in the shadows.
