Paige Spiranac may be one of the most mentally strongest females in the golfing world. However, even the bold social media star has her heart-wrenching moments. Though she may have shed a tear several times off the course, Spiranac once ended up crying while playing golf against a rising LPGA star.
While her amateur golf days are well behind her, the Maxim’s 2022 Sexiest Woman Alive does reminisce about it frequently during her podcast sessions. In the most recent episode ‘It’s Hard Being a Human’, Paige talks about her Junior Golf days when she competed with an LPGA player who’s been in the news for her stunning performance at the Chevron Championship this past week.

Tough competition broke Paige Spiranac down
Over the weekend, the world of golf witnessed the first LPGA Major of the season. Though Lilia Vu won her maiden Major after a thrilling playoff, 24-year-old Angel Yin also won the hearts of many with a runner-up position. Her performance was even appreciated by the queen of golf herself.
However, while applauding the LPGA star, Spiranac revealed a story of her competing with Yin which didn’t turn out very well for the social media sensation. “I remember her (Angel Yin) from junior golf”, said Spiranac who got to play against the LPGA star at Moon Valley Country Club in Phoenix for an American Junior Golf Association tournament.
Paige claimed, “Angel was a phenom”, despite being five years younger than her. Moreover, Yin, who was around 11 or 12 years of age at the time according to the social media star, was a lot taller than her age which was frightening Spiranac. The 30-year-old said in her podcast, “She (Angel Yin) was like, taller than me, like stronger. She was hitting the ball in front of me. I looked at my mom and I’m like, I can’t compete with this”.
The future LPGA star would outclass Spiranac in every round with an under-par score. Meanwhile, a struggling Paige ended up shedding a tear after each round. “She ended up shooting like under par all three rounds. I ended up crying after every round”, revealed the social media star. Nonetheless, years after crying in the Moon Valley Country Club, Spiranac has nothing but respect for Angel Yin.
She said, “The level of talent that she came out onto the scene with and it’s continuing to play so well. It is truly impressive”. While Yin managed to continue her dream of earning an LPGA Tour card, Spiranac had to give up her dream of professional golf. But before switching to the world of social media, Paige had one more opportunity to compete with Angel. Did she outshine her that time?
Spiranac’s another chance at vengeance
Though Spiranac never made it to the LPGA, she did earn the Cactus Tour card, which is an unofficial developmental Tour. Nonetheless, during the Ladies European Tour’s season finale at the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters in 2016, Spiranac had the opportunity to take revenge on Yin for the tears she caused years ago.

Nonetheless, the event only backfired on the social media star as she ended up missing the cut while Angel Yin finished tied to 10th position along with Tiger Woods’ niece, Cheyenne Woods. A year later in the same event, Yin claimed her first and only professional win. Though Spiranac wasn’t a competitor in the 2017 edition, she was invited to the tournament as an ambassador, thanks to her ever-growing social media following.
Regardless of what happened in the past, both Paige Spiranac and Angel Yin have mastered their domains. While Spiranac has little to no competition around her in the golf social space, Yin is still a rising star in the LPGA. Hopefully, the fans can witness another round of golf between the former competitors on Paige’s YouTube channel.
