Last year, the illustrious win that was earned by the 29-year-old on the historic St Andrews will always remain memorable for the golf community. It was the golfer’s first major championship victory. However, as the Aussie golfer took the mic last year post his triumph, he was greeted by many questions with regard to then-newly formed LIV Golf.
This was the point that Smith believed to be “frustrating” because instead of his first major win, a lot more focus was given by the media to LIV Golf. However, when once again the question was raised this year before the tournament, the golfer did not appear much bothered. He honestly replied that it was a guy trying to do his job and asking a question that everyone was curious about.
Just a few weeks after his Open Championship win last year, Smith shifted to LIV Golf. Presently, he expressed that he has no regrets with regard to his decision. When asked if he will be under more pressure playing in front of the British crowd because of the LIV golf tag on him, he said: “I don’t think there’s any added motivation there. I don’t have any hard feelings towards anyone there at all.”
Moreover, he conveyed that his focus this week is purely on the Open Championship. He is expecting to deliver his hundred percent at Hoylake and aim for a victory once more.

Thus, keeping the same in mind, Smith confessed that he will aim to have a week just like last year at St Andrew’s and try to win the Claret Jug for the second time running. Concerning the same, World No. 7 revealed his game preparations before the big event.
The LIV player stated that he doesn’t expect too much from himself except to deliver 100 percent while on the greens. His mantra for a victory is to tick all the boxes, prepare well and give the tournament his all. However, to win a major, one must not go with a mindset of expecting to win everything. Rather, with an outlook to deliver diligently, and if a victory comes his way, so it be, the golfer concluded.
