Paige was quite frank about her thoughts on the Presidents Cup, which is due to be played in September this year. “But I’m excited for the playoffs. I think it’s going to be interesting. We’re gonna get some big names back because last couple of weeks were not that boring. They weren’t that exciting, and it would be cool. Let’s eliminate those and let’s put in like two LIV events or one LIV event or something,” she said.

“And I think, let’s get rid of the President’s cup. I don’t care about the President’s cup,”
For those unfamiliar with the Presidents Cup, it’s a competition consisting of men’s golf matches between Team USA and an international team representing the rest of the world minus Europe (as there already is a Team USA vs Team Europe event, called the Ryder Cup). The 2022 Presidents Cup will be hosted at the Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina.
What did Spiranac say about the ‘Paige Cup’?
In the same dialogue, Paige mentioned it would be a good idea to pit the PGA Tour and the LIV Golf series together in an event similar to the Ryder Cup. “Let’s make a LIV versus the PGA Tour, like Ryder Cup style event. I think that would be pretty cool. Incredible. I think that’d be awesome,” she exclaimed.

On being told that the tournament could be named the ‘Paige Cup’ on the grounds of her idea, Spiranac went all-in. “Yeah, I’m just gonna fund it. I’m gonna figure this out. But how would that be because you got the animosity, you get really great players.” she said.
Paige also felt this could be a great opportunity for players who don’t get picked at the Ryder Cup to express and enjoy themselves in a team event. “And I think we’ll give the guys opportunity who don’t get to play on the Ryder Cup anymore, to still get in that environment.”

The two golf associations, the PGA Tour and the rebel LIV Golf series, are currently at loggerheads with each other, with the battle inevitably heading towards more lawsuits and court appearances. A ‘Paige Cup’ might not be in the best interests of everybody, but from a hypothetical view, seems like an interesting competition to watch out for in the future.
