LIV Golf once again faced rejection at the hands of a PGA Tour pro. After Viktor Hovland, it was the 2023 U.S. Open champion who rejected the lucrative offer presented by the PIF-backed league. Wyndham Clark was rumored to join the rebel league, however, his commitment to play at the PGA Tour events showcased his loyalty to the Tour.
Although the 30-year-old never confirmed or denied the rumors, Clark has recently revealed that LIV Golf did approach the three-time PGA Tour winner. However, the breakaway league had to return empty-handed, as Clark chose to stay with the American circuit, citing the rich history and legacy it endures.

A few weeks ago, Flushing It Golf reported that Wyndham Clark was in talks about becoming a part of Jon Rahm’s team, Legion XIII, at the PIF-funded league. However, the University of Oregon alumni shattered those rumors, as he did not withdraw from any of the PGA Tour events. Now, after winning the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, Clark disclosed that he did have a discussion with the breakaway league.
Clark told NBC Sports, “I definitely met with LIV and went through those discussions.” The reason behind his first few meetings with LIV Golf was to see what they would “bring to the table.” However, he didn’t wish to jump ships, as LIV Golf is unable to provide OWGR points to its golfers or has a legacy as vast as the Tour. Detailing his all-time dream from his career, Clark said, “I still have a lot of things left in the tank on the PGA Tour and I wanted to chase records, I wanted to chase world ranking.”
If he can’t be the all-time best, the one-time major winner wants to be one of the top players, as he has always imagined winning PGA Tour events. Ultimately, when it came to choosing money or building a legacy, he chose the latter. “I chose my legacy over LIV, and that’s really what it came down to.”
Clark has joined Viktor Hovland in prioritizing his legacy and career over LIV Golf’s lucrative deal. While rejecting LIV’s offer, the Norwegian golfer also said that he wouldn’t “become a better golfer” at LIV Golf. While the hefty contracts do attract many golfers to the league, the lack of future stability makes them hesitant to join it. Though a bit interested in the deal once, Clark is now 100% sure of the PGA Tour.

Wyndham Clark takes advice from PAC members
Eventually, Clark rejected the offer, but during that period, he took valuable advice from Player Advisory Directors Tiger Woods, Patrick Cantlay, Adam Scott, and Jordan Spieth. He explained that he didn’t want them to sway in any way, but they did provide “some great advice and some counsel.”

Clark felt the work done by the PAC directors was honorable because they were working hard for the Tour and the players’s future. With an agreement now set with SSG, the Tour will move on to the next stage. Even though he isn’t sure of the future, he is definitely sure of one thing—his commitment to the PGA Tour. As he said, “I am 100 percent set on the PGA Tour.”
