PGA Tour announcer Andres Gonzales faced an unfortunate twist of fate as he missed the U.S. Open qualifier due to an unexpected clash between his new day job and his love for playing golf.

While covering the Memorial Tournament in Ohio, Gonzales realized that it would hinder his chances of participating in the qualifier. Despite experiencing a travel nightmare and a canceled flight from Chicago, Gonzales maintained his sense of humor. The irony of the situation was not lost on the former PGA Tour pro turned announcer.

In a truly unfortunate turn of events, Andres Gonzales found himself unable to reach Monday’s U.S. Open final qualifier due to an unexpected clash between his new day job and his passion for playing golf.

He tweeted, “My US Open Sectional is tomorrow at my home course @TCGCProShop. After hours of delays and one flight change, my connection from Chicago was canceled. No flights out that will get me to my morning time on time. I can’t help but feel everyone at my site got lucky. 😉 next year”

The former PGA Tour pro, who now serves as a PGA Tour LIVE announcer, was covering the Memorial Tournament outside Columbus, Ohio, on Sunday, only to realize that it would hinder his participation in the U.S. Open qualifier.

Gonzales experienced a travel nightmare as he attempted to make his way from Ohio to the west coast. The culmination of his arduous journey came in the form of a canceled flight out of Chicago, leaving the 40-year-old golfer with no feasible way to reach Tacoma Country & Golf Club, his home club and the venue for his Monday tee time. The irony of the situation was not lost on Gonzales.
