The golfing community is still reeling from the news it received a few days ago, as the US Open is currently in progress. According to PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan, the PGA Tour will soon merge with its main challenger, LIV Golf. The deal is worth around $3,000,000,000. This news shocked the whole golf community.
PGA Tour players were not even aware of the whole merger until it was officially disclosed. Sahith Theegala, one of the league’s professional players, commented on the news and said that it shows a lack of communication, which infuriated many other players. Many players demanded Monahan’s resignation. And now Jon Rahm talks about his side of the story. Let’s find out!

At the press conference before the US Open 2023, Jon Rahm talked about his strategy, his game plan, and the golf course before landing on the merger talk. He recounted his reaction when he initially learned of the merger.
While Rahm was at home with his children, preparing his coffee and enjoying his typical breakfast, all of a sudden, text messages began to flood his phone. At one point, he worried that his phone might catch fire. He was perplexed at the same time. Finally, he said to his wife that he would put his phone in the drawer because he was exhausted. “I think it was that day at one point I told Kelley I’m just going to throw my phone in the drawer and not look at it for the next four hours because I can’t deal with this anymore,” said Rahm in the press conference.
Additionally, he stated that none of the PGA Tours are quite certain of the situation. He was unable to discuss the transaction since he was unsure of how much has been settled. Not only did he talk about the merger, but he also talked about the US Open and the course at the conference. Move along!

Reporters questioned Rahm about the course and his strategy. The Spaniard responded that he wasn’t sure of the game strategy yet. But for him, just hole out and keep going. The fairways at L.A.C.C. are larger than they appear, he added. Players still need to hit the ball very well from the tee to the green in order to make any potential birdies.
He added that he enjoyed the field’s layout. And the design forces players to consider their every move. The greens are intricate, and if golfers miss them, they are put in challenging situations to get up and down. “It’s got everything. It’s got all the ingredients to be a great week,” said Rahm.
