Wyndham Clark's emotional confession—Is this the most touching moment in golf this year?

Through Netflix’s Full Swing docuseries, Wyndham Clark’s relationship anxiety was well discovered and put forth in front of the world. In the last three years, the 1-time major has worked with his therapist to overcome them and not let it disrupt his gameplay. However, there are times when it takes a front seat, and even if it is for just a second, Clark is in the back.

Something similar happened at the 124th US Open in Pinehurst No. 2 and Paige Spiranac was able to make the 3-time PGA Tour share it with the world. The two used to play golf together as they grew up in Colorado and are currently at Castle Pines GC, Clark for the BMW Championship, and Spiranac for the Creators Classic. And through this interaction, Clark revealed the distressing memory from his major title defense.

Preparing for their battles at the Castle Pines Golf Club, Paige Spiranac and Wyndham Clark squeezed in a video for their fans, and through the help of a 1-time major winner, they shared the best preparation tips for any tournament. Amidst the talk of the game, Spiranac asked Clark when he was most nervous at an event.

Answering the golf influencer’s question, the 30-year-old said, “Honestly probably walking up the 18th hole at the US Open this year. I thought I was visibly kind of shaking and just looking around I was like, oh my gosh, I can’t believe this is my reality.” Taking a look back, Clark’s performance at the 2024 US Open was unexpected as he finished T56. His nervousness might have been one thing distracting him.

Furthermore, Clark added that his mind then wandered off for 30 seconds and he brought himself back to the moment, reminded himself that he had not won the event yet, and calmed down. But as soon as he hit the putt, it was all back. He lightheartedly said, “I hit that putt and then I went back to just being a nervous wreck. I almost cried right after I hit the putt.”

Spiranac then jokingly revealed that she gets nervous and jittery every round and it was a normal thing for her. But the two could relate with each other about feeling nervous before a round. What they could not relate to would be when they used to play golf as the child and Clark had an unexpected ride.

Paige Spiranac reveals how Wyndham Clark used to show up to play golf

The golf community did not expect Wyndham Clark and Paige Spiranac to have a connected childhood. Both grew up in Colorado and the golf mommy congratulated the 3-time PGA Tour winner when he won the 2023 US Open. And revealed that they used to play junior golf together, so from a young age, Spiranac knew, Clark would make it big.

One of the reasons behind Clark’s success as a golfer has been attributed to his father, who supported him at every step and by giving him a stylish ride to golf practice. In a YouTube video with Erik Anders Lang, the founder of Random Golf Club, the two were walking up to the greens and Spiranac just said, “He [Clark] used to show up at junior golf tournaments in his dad’s Bentley.”

Well, that would have been cool for Clark to show up in a luxurious car and that too with his father. Nonetheless, as Spiranac and Clark take on Castle Pines GC, who do you think will conquer it? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
