The hype for the first-ever tech-infused golf league is already skyrocketing. With big names attached to the league and unique concepts, the fans are eager to witness what Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy have thought of with the TGL. However, it is not as simple as we say it. The players were seen practicing with new equipment for the simulator and a fresh course that no one had ever played on.
The 3,400 square-foot screen will be the greatest and newest thing that will judge how the players have performed for each shot. However, other than just the shots, the points system of the event is also unique. Similar to hockey leagues, the teams will have to be at the top spot of the leaderboard to qualify for the finals and semifinals. The top 4 teams will qualify for the semis, while the two toppers will compete in the finals. Here is how the teams will score.

Unlike the traditional match play or stroke play events in golf. The 2025 TGL will be introducing a new points system for the team. Besides this, the matches will even have an interesting twist to double the points. The basic system for winning the match is to accumulate the highest points on the 15-hole course. Every hole offers 1 point to the team. However, there is also an interesting addition, called the TGL Hammer. As per the official website of TGL, a team can use it to increase the point for the hole at any given point in the match.
The interesting part is that the hammer doubles the points, but only if the opposing team agrees. Any team irrespective of who initially uses the hammer, can get the benefit of double the points. Using the hammer will increase the points for that particular hole if the opponent accepts the challenge. The hammer can be introduced at any given point of the game when adding pressure, covering the lead, or requiring extra points. The possession is changed after the team has used the hammer. The points will be added till the last hole and the team with the most points for the course will take the final standing points to lead at the points table.

However, with each hole, the team can add up to 1 point, while a tie will offer 0 points. The table shows how the points will be calculated for the match.

The unique experience for the fans and golfers is going to be an exciting one. Apart from the points system, the intriguing format offering a combination of team and singles play will also be a delight for the fans.
TGL Golf’s 15-hole format
The unique 15-hole courses follow a new format for the team and individual players. The holes are divided into two parts, the first for the teams and the second for individual players. However, it’s not as simple as it sounds. The team will decide the chronology of players taking the shot and the same numbering will be followed for the holes, 1 to 10.

Later in the second session, the players will play singles for 2 holes. From holes 10-15, the first player will take on the 10 &13th hole, while the second player will take the 11 &14th hole. The last players of the team will go for the 12 &15th hole. The combined performance of the team will be the result of victory that will help add 2 points after the match.
The new system and environment might not be easy to understand at first, but eventually, after a few holes, it will get better for the fans. And with the top names participating, you would not want to miss the best of golf with the cocktail of tech and real golf.
