Do you think the Ascension Charity Classic is underrated compared to other major golf tournaments?

Action in the golf world never stops. The 2024 Ascension Charity Classic featuring senior golfers at the Norwood Hills Country Club in St. Louis, Missouri is just around the corner. The tournament will feature 78 PGA Tour Champions professionals, including the defending champion Steve Flesch. The tournament will also feature some philanthropic elements, making it worth watching this week.

The tournament will commence from September 6th to 8th. The golfer will engage in a 54-hole stroke play tournament. The Golf Channel/NBC Sports App will stream all the rounds. You can tune in at 3 PM ET on Friday and sit in front of your TV for the next three hours till 6 PM ET to watch the first round. The golfers will fight for the prize money of $2.1 million out of which the winner will get $315,000, and with the way last year Flesch won, the expectations are high for him.  Last year, he had a comeback that would be remembered for years. He finished 19 under par, and notably, he set a new 18-hole and 54-hole course record at Norwood Hills Country Club. He started the final round two shots off the lead and then carded 9-under 62, including an eagle and seven birdies. This helped him outshine Kevin Sutherland and Y.E. Yang and secure his first win of the season.

The Ascension Charity Classic is indeed a little bit different as it offers more than just lighthearted golf this week. And as the name says, most of the things are related to charity.

What’s special about the Ascension Charity Classic?

To start, there’s the Charity Putting Challenge, which will feature a nine-hole scramble-format putting match between amateur golfers and PGA Tour Champion professionals. Last year at the RSM Putting Challenge, 11 charities earned cash prizes through this event. The event also has the Ascension Charity Classic Youth Clinic. It helps a group of young golfers by providing them with an opportunity to learn and develop golf skills. During the first round of the Ascension Charity Classic, they will also celebrate Folds of Honor Friday.

Interestingly, this tournament’s newest initiative will recognize the commitment and sacrifice of military service members. The first round will kick off with a Folds of Honor-enhanced Opening Ceremony, featuring a ceremonial first tee shot, a National Anthem performance, and a Presentation of Colors. Overall, the Ascension Charity Classic seems like more than just a regular tournament worth watching this week.
