Have an interesting take?
Why are FedEx Cup playoffs so important?
Well, think of it like this. FedEx Cup playoffs give the players a whole new chance to change their entire season. The FedExCup Playoffs are a series of three golf tournaments that happen after the Regular PGA Tour season which means after the Wyndham Championship. The top 70 players in the FedExCup standings qualify to play. These players compete for a share of $100 million in bonus money, with the winner taking home $25 million.
This structure of the Playoffs is progressive and it means that fewer players proceed to the next level of the tournaments. The first tournament, the FedEx St. Jude Championship has 70 participating players. BMW Championship is the second tournament and has 50 players. the last tournament titled the TOUR Championship, has only 30 players in the competition, according to the PGA Tour website.

Confused much? Well, here’s how it works, players earn points throughout the regular season, and the top performers get to compete in the Playoffs. The first two tournaments add an extra 2000 points to the points collected on the regular tours, for the winners. Amazing right? Well, it is, but then things get really interesting as the playoff moves toward the third tournament. The final tournament, the TOUR Championship, doesn’t follow the points system, it uses the classic golf format where the player with the lowest score takes home the trophy!
The Wyndham Championship is the last chance for players to secure their spot in the Playoffs and make a run for the $25 million prize. With so much on the line, this tournament is not to be missed! So, are you ready to watch the jam-packed action? Let us know in the comment section below!
