So far, the LPGA Tour has churned out a few surprises. The first six events on the Tour have seen six different winners and the more surprising fact is that Nelly Korda, coming off a dominant 2024 season, is yet to win this year. The World No.1 at this stage last year, had three victories already. With the first major coming up in Texas, Korda will be back in a familiar hunting ground in Las Vegas this week.
The T-Mobile Match Play in 2024 saw the American golfer beat the Irish golfer Leona Maguire in an intense final face-off. Korda will be looking forward to starting her 2025 season in earnest with a victory in Nevada, but it will be no easy task. The likes of Lydia Ko, Ayaka Furue, and many more will be posing as stern obstacles to Korda’s bid to break her duck in the 2025 season.
While the action promises to be entertaining, let’s take a look at how you can catch it from the comfort of your home.

The format at the T-Mobile Match Play
Last year, the format was a bit different in Nevada, but this year the LPGA has decided to revert back to the 2023 format. The format consists of 64 players split into four groups based on their respective rankings.
Across Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, all four members of the pool will face off against each other. A match win gives the winner one point, and a tie is worth half a point to both participants. The loser of the match does not get any points. One player, i.e., the player with the most points, advances to the Round of 16 matches on Saturday. If there is a tie, a playoff is played to determine the winner.

The knockouts are single-elimination contests. The round of 16 and quarterfinals will happen on Saturday. The winners advance to the semifinals on Sunday morning. The two finalists will play against each other in the championship match on Sunday afternoon at the fabled Shadow Creek. There will be no third-place playoffs.
It is an interesting format that poses a different set of challenges for the LPGA players. Will Nelly Korda defend her title and win her first tournament on the 2025 LPGA Tour?
