Rory McIlroy’s 2024 season on the PGA Tour was a mixture of good and average performance. He won two times on the American circuit, once at the Zurich Classic with his good friend Shane Lowry, and then at the Wells Fargo Championship. Now, he has concluded his PGA Tour season and moved to the DP World Tour to win there too.
McIlroy has already won the Dubai Desert Classic early in the year and is preparing to keep his No. 1 rank by potentially bagging another win at the BMW PGA Championship. The event is scheduled to start on September 19th at the Wentworth Club in Virginia Waters, Surrey, and will end after four days on the 22nd. It is the 20th anniversary of the event, with many top pros returning to Wentworth, including McIlroy, Lowry, Peter Malnati, Tommy Fleetwood, Matt Fitzpatrick, and more in the third event of the DP World Tour Rolex Series.
The USA golf fans can tune into the Golf Channel between 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. EDT on Thursday and Friday and from 7 to 12:30 p.m. EDT to watch the two rounds of the BMW PGA Championship. The same could be watched on NBC Sports App. On the other hand, UK-based fans can tune into Sky Sports Golf to watch the event. The featured groups will be streamed between 8:30 and 12:00 p.m. BST; after which, full coverage of the event will be telecasted from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m. BST.

The BMW PGA Championship will be an enthralling event for sure. With top-ranked players in the field and a $9 million prize purse at stake, the golfers would leave no stone unturned to get the better of the million-dollar event. As for McIlroy, he has a promise to fulfill after a missed opportunity last week.

Near misses have plagued Rory Mcilroy’s career for longer than anyone could imagine. Just this season at the US Open in Pinehurst, the Northern Irishman missed the 18th hole par to force a playoff with Bryson DeChambeau, and make a run to break the 10-year-old majorless streak. But that near-miss curse did not stop just there. The Amgen Irish Open was the first start of McIlroy after switching from the PGA Tour to the DP World Tour.
He was playing in his home country; thus, he was the crowd’s favorite. The 4-time major winner capitalized on the fans’ support and played his best golf at the Royal County Down. Coming to the final round, McIlroy, fortunately, had a lead, but after carding two bogeys and two birdies in the last four holes, he failed to pull off another playoff, and the monicker, “greatest choker of all time,” was alive again. Instead, Rasmus Hojgaard took the win, and McIlroy was left without any trophy and with a runner-up finish again.
