The Genesis Invitational is the third signature event of the PGA Tour and is taking place at the Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego. The event will feature the top PGA Tour golfers. Hideki Matsuyama will be looking to defend his Genesis title. The site will be a familiar one for them, as the recently concluded Farmers Insurance Open took place here. If you want to catch them in action on TV, we got you!

The Genesis Invitational was the only official PGA Tour event outside of the majors he has played in over the last two years. Last year, he had to withdraw before teeing off in the second round because of flu. This appearance will mark his first since The Open’24.

The 82-time PGA Tour winner had undergone back surgery last year in September to treat the chronic back spasms and pain he dealt with most of 2024. He had spoken about his return at the Hero World Challenge last year, “I’m not tournament sharp yet. I’m still not there. These are 20 of the best players in the world and I’m not sharp enough to compete against them at this level. So when I’m ready to compete and play at this level, then I will.”

Woods lost his mother Kultida Woods a few days ago on February 4. “My mom was a force of nature all her own, her spirit was simply undeniable,” Woods wrote on social media. With doubts regarding his participation, the tournament released a statement confirming his participation.

While he has stayed away from the PGA Tour, Woods has been a regular feature at TGL, the tech-based innovative golf league that he created along with Rory McIlroy. Woods has played two times for his team, the Jupiter Links Golf Club. The first match ended in a one-sided loss to the Los Angeles Golf Club. However, the second match saw Woods and Co. eke out a victory against Rory McIlroy and his team, the Boston Common Golf.

At Torrey Pines, Woods will be in familiar territory, having won there 8 times including the 2008 US Open. But he is not in his best form, heading into the Genesis Invitational having made only one cut in the last five PGA Tour events.
