Can Billy Horschel bounce back from this injury, or is it a career-threatening setback?

Billy Horschel dropped out of the 3M Open on Thursday, just about an hour before he was scheduled to tee off with Sam Burns and J.T. Poston. He was replaced by Adam Long on the course. He was looking to improve his T13 finish from last year’s 3M Open, where he ended 13-under par. Lee Hodges, who lifted the trophy, was a whopping eleven strokes ahead of him.

Horschel flew from Scotland to Minnesota on Monday and was one of the first golfers on the TPC Twin Cities range Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. However, it seems he will have to wait another year for redemption. He cited that he was not feeling well, but is it a serious illness he will be ailing from?

Billy Horschel was suffering from a high fever on Thursday, and while he thought he could make it through the first round, his body did not cooperate. At the presser, he said, “Yeah, it was unfortunate. I wasn’t feeling great late last night and took some medicine. Woke up, and had decent sleep but woke up and just have a fever, the body is just not wanting to respond, every muscle feels like it’s locked up”.

He explained that he withdrew because, despite his efforts to complete his regular gym warm-up, his body did not respond as hoped. He even went to the TPC Twin Cities Golf Course to practice but was unable to do so, which left him deeply disappointed. As it is, Horschel had a great week with an unfortunate ending at the Royal Troon; he entered the final round with a solo lead, shooting an impressive 3-under 68 in the penultimate round.

The PGA Tour pro was defeated by Xander Schauffele by two strokes and had to settle for a T2 with Justin Rose. “I was looking forward to playing here at 3M. Played here last year, and had a good finish. The event is well run by 3M and Tracy and Hollis, so very disappointed not to be able to play here after coming off a great finish last week”, Horschel added. Now the question is, when does he make a comeback?

The next stop for Billy Horschel is the Wyndham Championship

The Wyndham Championship is scheduled for two weeks from now, from August 7 to August 11. This will give him enough time to not just recover but also get back on track and give his best at the Sedgefield Country Club.

In the pre-tournament press conference in Blaine, he confirmed his presence in the final regular-season event at Greensboro, North Carolina.
