Rory McIlroy is in the news once again, but this time it’s an off-the-course matter. The four-time major championship winner was recently named among the four-player directors on the PGA Tour. Moreover, the Northern Irishman is in the news for the proposal he has made regarding PGL to the PGA Tour. Is he the main character in the new story?

Rory McIlroy, the center point in the PGL deal

Premier Golf League is also among the new golf tours emerging from Europe. The PGL originated in the year 2019, with asking SGL to underwrite the new Tour. However, the deal never came off and PGL clearly mentions on its website that it is not connected with the SGL.

Moreover, the Premiere Golf League is looking to join hands with the PGA Tour and with the Kon Ferry Tour, and the DP World Tour. Rory Mcllroy is one of the famous professionals who can play a crucial role in the two titans coming together.

Recently, the golf league wrote an interesting mail to Rory. Coincidently, it was the same day, February 14th on which Rory was made a part of players director on the PGA Tour. McIlroy is ought to present any proposal that can benefit the Tour players. Rory even proposed the idea to the Player Advisory Committee at Bay Hill and even at the Players Championship last week. This proves that Rory is the focal point of the deal between the two tours.

Kevin Kisner, also a member of the four players’ director, also spoke about the PGL. He said, “Their proposal has been studied and scrutinized by an independent company to test its viability.”

“The results were presented to all of us. After extensively studying the [PGL’s] finances and the proposal, the [consultants] likened it to having to perform from a financial standpoint of 19 Ryder Cups per year. Not feasible.”

PGL offer to the Tour

The Premier Golf Leagues offer is not only making players richer but also giving the ownership stakes. Moreover, the new tour is offering 100 million shares, with a proposed value of $10billion. The PGA Tour member would get 50 percent of the shares, Kon Ferry Tour players will get 7.5 percent of the shares, and the DP World Tour members will get 2.5 percent.
