The veterans are never one step behind to show the world who the real boss is! That was the same case with K.J. Choi at the 2024 Senior Open, where he did define the saying, ‘age is just a number’. The 54-year-old from South Korea shot 10 under par and secured his first senior major win. But here’s the amazing part: Choi isn’t the oldest veteran to achieve this feat, and that too at the age of 54 years old.

Bernhard Langer defied his age in 2021 when he won the Dominion Energy Charity Classic on the PGA Tour Champions at the age of 64 years 1 month and 27 days. Yes, you read that right! He made everlasting history again when he won his sixth Charles Schwab Cup before turning 65. In 2022, he won the Chubb Classic at 64 years, 5 months, and 23 days and he broke his own record for the oldest PGA Tour Champions winner. Then at 65 years old, he emerged victorious at the TimberTech Championship. But Langer wasn’t done yet!

In the 2023 season, he broke his record once more, winning multiple times as a 65-year-old. He scored 17 under par and won the 2023 Chubb Classic. The golfer’s performance only got better as he won the 2023 Senior U.S. Open with a score of 7 under par. Langer then shot a brilliant score of 25 under par and secured his win at the 2023 PNC Championship as well. It’s safe to say that Bernhard Langer’s skills are aging like fine wine, just like the golfer himself.

Phil Mickelson: The oldest golfer to win a major

Not only Langer, but Phil Mickelson also made history in the year 2021. Mickelson became the first golfer to win a major at the age of 50 years, 11 months and 7 days. Then a 50-year-old Mickelson made a score of six under par to secure his win at the 2021 PGA Championship and became the oldest major winner in golf history. And the win brought more than he could’ve anticipated.

Apart from the sought-after 600 FedEX points, the golfer got a lucrative prize purse of $12 million. Runner-ups Brooks Koepka and Louis Oosthuizen also took home $1.056 million. Now, at the age of 54, Mickelson is still doing wonders by inspiring young golfers to level up their game or just having fun at the greens. Lefty also became the oldest runner-up of the Masters when he finished at T2 in 2023.
