Golf’s Senior Tour, also better known as the PGA Tour Champions doesn’t always have a similar lineup of Majors. Since 1980, when the PGA Tour Champions took place for the first time, it has taken on numerous tournaments as part of the Major Championships.

Since the year 2003, Golf’s Senior Tour takes into account five major championships. These include –

  • The US Senior Open
  • The Senior British Open Championship
  • Senior PGA Championship 
  • The Senior Players Championship
  • The Tradition

The five Majors in the PGA Tour Champions

  • The US Senior Open

Dating back to 1980 – the initial year of the tour, the US Senior Open is under the USGA to date. The tournament takes place during mid-summer and moves around each year.

  • The Senior British Open Championship

This championship came into recognition in 2003 by the PGA Tour Champions. The Senior British Open was first played in 1987 and is run by R&A. Any victories that took place in the tournament before 2003, are not taken into consideration as official wins in the PGA Tour Champions.

  • Senior PGA Championship

 This is the oldest Major in the Senior Tour, and it was played even before the Senior Tour came into existence. It was first played in the year 1937 at Augusta National Country Club. They called this championship the PGA Seniors Championship back then.

The Senior PGA Champions is under the PGA of America since its beginning and became a tour major in the year 1980. Any victories in the tournament before 1980, are not considered official PGA Tour Champions major wins. However, the American PGA still recognizes those victories.

  • The Senior Players Championship

Since PGA couldn’t add the Players Championship as a major, it made the Senior Players Championship a major in the tour. The Senior Players has taken place at several places over the years, but this time it will be played at the Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio.

  • The Regions Tradition

The Regions Tradition was created in the year 1989 with the intent of making it the final major on the tour. However, it ended up being the first major of the year on the tour.

The tour will begin on 9th May 2022, starting with the Regions Tradition. It will go on till 24th July 2022, ending with The Senior Open Presented by Rolex.
