Shane Lowry's family life: Does his happiness off the course fuel his success on it?

For Shane Lowry, family time is the most important part of his life. The former Open champion even missed his best friend, Rory McIlroy’s, wedding because of his grandmother’s birthday. No wonder, despite leading a busy life, Lowry often takes her daughters out for sports matches or even takes them to school.

The Irishman has two young daughters with his wife, Wendy Honner. His first daughter, Iris, was born in March 2017. Iris has seen her father’s 2019 Open triumph from the grounds nestled inside the lap of her mother, Wendy. “No matter what I shoot tomorrow, my two-year-old daughter will be there waiting for me,” the Irishman said before the final round.

Back in February 2020, the Irishman posted a picture of her daughter with a school bag, captioning it “Off on her first day” A few months later, Iris was already cheering for her father at the Masters. Although Lowry couldn’t take her family to Augusta due to COVID-related restrictions, the mother-daughter was glued to the television despite the time zone difference.

Lowry has also been spotted with Iris at the hurling matches. The Irishman is a Clara GAA fan and sports black and white, Clara’s color, on the greens often. It’s not surprising that the three-time PGA Tour winner introduced her daughter to the game early.

Lowry and Wendy welcomed their second daughter in September 2021. Introducing her to the world, the 2019 Open champion captioned an Instagram post, “Welcome to this world, Ivy Lowry.” Last year, a few weeks before the Ryder Cup, Wendy Honner shared snippets from the family’s celebration of Ivy’s second birthday.

Ivy might be just two, but she is already interested in golf. In an Instagram snap from April, the two-year-old can be seen swinging a club on the range. Interestingly, it was Iris who was carrying the bag for her younger sister. Wendy captioned the story, ‘Ivy on a mission.’

At this year’s Masters, Shane Lowry took her daughters to Augusta for the famous par-3 championship. The toddlers donned the white jumpers as per the Augusta tradition. They walked around the greens with Tommy Fleetwood and his family.

An emotional Lowry thanked his family after the 2019 Open Championship triumph. His wife celebrates every triumph and suffers every heartbreak with Lowry. Their relationship is more than a decade old, without any rust on it.

What do we know about Shane Lowry’s wife?

Per the Irish Sun, the Offaly man met Wendy Honner in 2012 on a night out. Lowry developed an instant fondness but waited two more years before popping the question. Eventually, in 2014, the 35-year-old proposed to her on a Dubai beach. They got engaged that year but waited two more years before tying the knot.

Lowry didn’t want to make it an extravagant affair by any means. Instead, it was a private wedding in New York, where the couple vacationed in 2016. There was a reason behind it. Lowry felt the guest list was brimming to the brim when he was first planning to get married to Clara.

But none of them wanted to have a crowded marriage ceremony. Hence, they picked the stateside venue. Honner sometimes accompanies her husband, like at the 2024 Open. Currently, they are settled in Jupiter, Florida. They also have a sprawling home in South Dublin.
