Does Phil Mickelson's dedication to veterans make him the most patriotic golfer in history?

Phil Mickelson’s father was a fighter jet pilot, which is why their family has a long association with the military. They take every opportunity to support causes related to the military. This year, the entire HyFlyers team, captained by Phil Mickelson, partnered with Bunkers in Baghdad to help the military.

Bunkers in Baghdad is a non-profit charity that collects and sends golf equipment to American troops all around the globe. This year, it celebrated its 15th anniversary, having donated 15 million golf balls and 1.5 million clubs, along with heartfelt messages from 2,000 participating Bunker Buddies schools nationwide. These items were sent for recreation and rehabilitation in more than 80 countries and 50 states. Here’s how the team supported the brave people of the country who put their lives at risk for our safety.

Ahead of LIV Golf Houston back in June, Lefty announced the offer of free passes for people who donated to the cause. Every fan who attended the event and donated 12 golf balls at the HyFlyers dropbox received a free grounds pass for the day. “We are forever grateful for the sacrifice that the men and women of our country have made to provide the freedoms we all take for granted,” said HyFlyers Captain Phil Mickelson.

A similar drive was organized for the LIV Golf Team Championship set to take place in Dallas. The team shared the terms and conditions for receiving a free pass to the tournament on their official X account. They highlighted the post with, “Get a free ticket to LIV Golf Dallas”, and the post also added, “Join us in Dallas and help support Bunkers in Baghdad”.

In their partnership with the charity, the LIV Golf team focuses on engaging with the youth, sustainability efforts, and honoring the military. Even in Houston, they took the first step and hosted a program ahead of the championship.

The team, led by Phil Mickelson, conducted a clinic for children whose parents worked in high-ranking Air Force positions or were Naval military members stationed in Houston. The Captain also paid tribute to pro golfer and Houston native Jackie Burke. He then demonstrated a drill for the kids that was taught to him by the late golfer.

Additionally, Lefty also organized an activity that benefited the Bunker Buddies program. He gave the kids an opportunity to paint golf balls and tasked them with writing letters for the charity foundation, which would be sent to active military personnel stationed overseas.
