What comes to your mind when you hear the 2024 Presidents Cup US captain’s name? His 17 PGA Tour wins? His 2003 US Open victory? All of that, for sure but Jim Furyk’s love story is also one for the books. He met his wife Tabitha Furyk at the 1995 Memorial Tournament. Little did he know that this unexpected encounter would change his life forever.
In an interview with Golf Monthly Furky shed light on his chance encounter with Tabitha. He admitted that he was a bit hesitant around her. “I walked off the green [after my round] and was goofing around with some kids, and Tabitha caught my eye, so I said hello to her. I was a little shy about going up and talking to her.” The golfer also said that he may have never met Tabitha if it wasn’t for her boss Ray.
Tabitha’s boss Ray was interviewing Furyk after the golfer took the 56th spot at a score of 286. As per Furyk, Ray turned into a cupid when he saw the golfer’s interest in Tabitha. “Then Ray (Tabitha’s boss) came up to interview me. The whole time he was interviewing me, I kind of positioned myself so that I could keep checking her out. And [Ray] noticed, and he’s the one that ended up kind of introducing us and getting us started,” he said.

Jim Furyk and wife have a Christmas family tradition
Every year on Christmas Eve, the Furyk family becomes a secret Santa to many children. The golfer and his wife Tabitha host their annual Hope for the Holidays charity event to spread joy to those in need. A decade ago, they started this tradition of packing 250 food bags for underprivileged kids, and today their efforts have grown significantly, and the proof was the time they distributed 5,000 bags across the city in 2022.
Tabitha expressed her enthusiasm for the good deed. “We are incredibly excited about tonight, our 11th year of doing this. Our first year, we filled 250 bags. Now, we’re at over 5,000 bags of food. It gets distributed all over the city,” she said.
