Is sacrificing a professional golf career worth it for the joys of family life?

You never know where life will take you, and for Jason Caron, that unexpected twist came at a Florida art gallery in 2008 because that’s where he met Liz Janangelo. But who is she? Well, Ms Janangelo soon turned into Mrs. Caron and we’re here to tell you how it happened. Their chance encounters almost two decades, ago turned into a beautiful friendship and eventually marriage. It was love at first sight as Caron describes and their shared passion for golf became the glue that held them together.

Janangelo and Caron’s golf journeys were eerily similar as they’d both been junior golf stars, collegiate athletes, and even pros. Caron was a pro on the PGA Tour and Janangelo was on the LPGA Tour. That’s why they blended together so well because they understood the blood, sweat, and tears that went into making it to the top. “When I met Jason, I knew it was going to be very, very hard to have a family. (Pro golf) wasn’t what I thought it would be like,” said Janangelo per Power Fades.

And well it is true that managing being parents while being a full-time golfer can be a hassle. Fast-forward to today and Caron and Janangelo are living their dream. They work together at The Mill River Club in Long Island surrounded by the sport they love and they have two lovely kids named Caroline and Julia. Janangelo works as a golf instructor at The Mill River Club after achieving an impressive background as a two-time NCAA champion at Duke, so maybe it is safe to say that they worked out pretty well as a team.

But the parenting journey has not been easy for the pair and they explained exactly why in an interview with the PGA Tour.

Jason Caron and his wife work hard to make ends meet

Maybe things would have been different had Caron and Janangelo not decided to start a family. But with two young daughters, Caroline and Julia, their priorities shifted. Maybe once they had a dream to rule the golfing world with their swings and putts but now they just want to watch their two little girls grow.

“I love what I do. Having little kids and being able to watch them grow up means a lot more to me than hitting a white golf ball down the fairway”, Caron said with a smile.  Caron’s recent golf success was at the Low Senior PGA of America Golf Professional category where he won a $154,000 check after an amazing 10-stroke win. While many think the golfer may be stoked about the prize money it was the tournament sponsor, KitchenAid, that really made their day. As winners, Caron and the tournament champion received a full kitchen suite of new appliances.

Janangelo’s eyes lit up at the news and she jokingly recalled, “My mother was joking to me, she’s like, ‘Maybe now you’ll be able to afford a stove,’”.Their current stove had been broken for months, forcing her to rely on a toaster/convection oven.  “I’ve just been using a little toaster/convection oven. Maybe we’ll up our game.” Their story truly defines the meaning of staying with each other through thick and thin and that is exactly what a marriage is about.
