The Race to CME Globe is as important for the LPGA Tour players, as the FedEx Cup Playoffs is for the PGA Tour players. It is a year-long competition of points where the professionals continue to gather points from every official tournament hosted by the Tour. The player who ultimately ends up grabbing the title at the CME Group Tour Championship is named the Race to the CME Globe Champion.

Just a few more days are left for the final event of the season to begin, and determine the winner. Currently, Nelly Korda is on the lead having played fifteen tournaments, with a whopping 3735 points. Following her is Haeran Ryu with one win and thirteen top 10 finishes at 2829 points. But the question is, how are the points distributed?

The winner of each Official LPGA Tournament will receive 500 Race to the CME Globe points. These points are awarded based on a player’s finish and contribute to the season-long standings. The five Major Championships on the LPGA Tour are given 30% more value than regular events. As a result, the winner of each Major Championship will earn 650 Race to the CME Globe points, making these events even more crucial for players aiming to finish at the top of the standings.

In the case of ties, points are distributed evenly among the players. The total points for each tying position will be averaged and that average will be awarded to each player involved in the tie, following the same method used to divide prize money in such situations. Now, the question is, who are the ones eligible for the Race to CME Globe points?

Eligibility criteria for the Race to CME Globe points

As mentioned, every official LPGA Tour gives out the Race to CME Globe points to the professionals. However, there are certain conditions to it. To begin with, whoever makes the cut for every event that has one, will be rewarded with at least a certain number of points. No matter what their finish is. They will also be rewarded with points for finishing all rounds of the tournament.

So, if a player, withdraws due to any reason after making the cut, they will no longer be eligible for additional Race to the CME Globe points. There is an exception for the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational. The point values are for each player of the team, not just the individual one. Last year, it was Amy Yang who clinched the trophy.
